Scorpion Queen

Houston ready for battle, not really this was his outfit for the party. It just wouldn't be an official post if I didn't slip in a picture of him though!
Creepy, crawly before his demise.
Creepy, crawly after his demise.
Growing up I guess I have always had a connection with scorpions, one of my favorite songs was "Wind of Change" by the Scorpions. My astrological sign is a Scorpio. I loved watching Scorpions and Kangaroo Rats attack each other on the Discovery Channel. However, I never really planned on coming in contact with a scorpion. My plans quickly changed Tuesday evening.
Houston and I had been partying like crazy at the YW Halloween activity. We were all hyped up on sugar and ready to crash. We went through our getting to bed ritual and I was carrying Houston into his room. As we approached his door I noticed something crawling on the ground. At first I assumed it was a big spider. After a second look I realized that was no spider, it was a SCORPION! The little bugger was crawling in Houston's room. For some odd reason my first thought was, "Get a camera no one will ever believe this." I sprinted downstairs and grabbed our camera, with Houston in my arms mind you. I took a couple pics of the creepy thing moving across the ground and then I knew it was time little scorpion dude met his maker. I put Houston in his crib for a front row seat, but he started screaming. This scared the scorpion and it scurried under the crib and hid by the leg of the crib. I honestly didn't know how I was going to kill the scorpion so I called my brother for some advice. He just told me to get something long because if the stinger got me it could do some serious damage. With this in mind I ran in and got Blake's golf club, at first I grabbed the sturdy driver, but after some thought I changed my mind to the 9 iron. I moved quickly into place. With cat like reflexes I jabbed at the scorpion. Of course my first aim was off and the little bugger came out after the club, but quickly I made another jab and made contact. I jabbed several more times just to ensure the death of my opponent. Needless to say I spent the next couple of hours tearing my house apart making sure there weren't anymore friends of this little guy. Poor Houston thought his mother had lost her mind. I am now convinced that he was a loner. Somehow brought into our house. It is the creepiest thing that has ever happened to me, but like one of my students said, "I now have a great story to write!"

LOVE this story! Oh Nikki, I miss you! Sorry I could not see you over the UEA break. I was at my parents house with no car. Hopefully next time I will be able to spend some time seeing my pals in Utah county.
